The very first Rolleicords have a weird frame counting mechanism, in that the frame counter acts similar to the red window. You have to observe the counter and stop turning when the next number appears... According to Prochnow this applies not only to the "Art Deco" but also to the first variants that came thereafter. As for the lens, just avoid contre jour situations... Use a lens hood and that will take care of most of the issues. I haven't had a Prewar Rollleicord in my hands for fifteen years but I do not recall that they had a stop for frame advance. That feature came in with the 'Automat', hence the name, and Carlos can fill you in on more detail. He knew Prochnow, after all, and reads German better than I do.
