According to the Wikipedia:
Farnsworth made the world's first working television system with
electronic scanning of both the pickup and display devices, which he
first demonstrated to news media on September 1, 1928, televising a
motion picture film; and to the public at the Franklin Institute in
Philadelphia on August 25, 1934, televising live images.
