Allen,I too have the Epson 4990 and it is certainly fine for smaller prints or web use.
I also bought a 3rd party film holder and ANR glass from http://www.betterscanning.com.
These hold medium format film much more flat than the Epson holder especially if you use the ANR glass. He also now offers adjustable height models to allow for focus variances from unit to unit and a wet mount holder!

A plurality seems to be pointing tin the direction of a 4990. Maybe I'll buy one today :-)Allen On Jul 16, 2007, at 12:08 PM, Carlos Manuel Freaza wrote:I have an Epson 4490 and 3.4 Dmax is more than enough to scan films and prints (4.0 Dmax could help for 35mm film), I bought the VueScan software (the basic version) and it really helps for the scanning process. Anyway the original Epson scanning software is very good too and considering the price reduction for the 4990 I'd buy a 4990 today.- All the best Carlos --- Allen Zak <azak@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx> escribió:Peter, Very much, Thanks. The 4990has a higher Dmax of4.0 compared to 3.4 of the 4490 which shouldresult in a better scan. The only other difference is really the 4490 cando 35mm and 2 1/4scanning while the 4990 can do film up to an 8x10"sheet.Hope this helps.
