[rollei_list] Re: Meter Testing

Dear Carlos,
As I said, there are large format users of film still.
David Bailey is a great photographer but he is even older than me, and what he
said was probably taking the p*ss out of the questioner!
I tend to respect the opinions of eminent photographers who have used both
chemical and electronically generated photographs extensively.
Older guys who have hardly ever used digital, or only a P&S, and young
whippersnappers who have only used digital do not have adequate experience to
have an opinion which I can respect.
I am by no means a brilliant photographer but I have been an enthusiastic
amateur since I was 11 years old in 1961, and have had my own darkroom for most
of the time since.
I have used MF cameras by Rollei, Hasselblad and Zeiss Ikon (Super Ikonta). I
still use a Rollei for fun occasionally. I have used 35 mm cameras by Agfa,
Kodak, Leica, Canon, Olympus and Nikon.
Since around 2001 I have had a digital camera available, initially only at work
for quick results recording modifications of wind-tunnel models.
Since then I have used digital cameras by Nikon, Canon, Olympus and Leica.
You may not agree with me about the quality of digital, fine, but I think you
are nitpicking if you think a significantly more people use chemicals than
electronics in Europe compared to the USA.
Perhaps in Africa and South America more photographers still use film than in
the USA and Europe? I would expect so but have no evidence recent enough to be
of any value.
In the USA even some well known landscape photographers are changing from 5x4
film to MF digital, it astonishes me since it is astronomically expensive.
Those prints must sell well!
best regards,
Frank
