I remember the old-style lens tests.  Years ago Norman Goldberg wrote on
lens testing, and stated ALL lenses are best 2 to 3 stops down from max
-- I tested most all of my stuff, and the improvements can be spectacular
-- espec 35mm zoom lenses.  Leitz Elmar improved, Summicron got
incredible....

Of course my Dallmeyer Pentac 110mm F2.9 on my Linhof is "soft" wide
open...  but can be hand held indoors...

Sharpness is important, but not all the time.
