Thank you Rich. I appreciate what you and Lee said.
I think people come to ROC launches for different reasons. We are individuals.
Whether they are members or not, people should do what they feel comfortable
doing. Personally, I do not want to guilt people into helping. Other posts
have noted that other clubs have created mechanisms that help prevent the work
from falling on a just a few people. I think the more experienced and active
people should encourage participation. There’s a way to do this without making
anyone uncomfortable. Many times, people just need to know that help is needed
and they can do it.
ROC is a rocket club. It is intended to help us launch our rockets and to help
others do the same. The educational part is only an extension of helping
others. Individuals feel differently about helping others and so support for
this varies.
However, as a club when we say we are going to do something we should follow
through. Starting late or shutting down after a launch has started is a clumsy
way to operate. We must keep in mind that for some people this is their first
launch. So, let’s get it done and have some fun.
See you at ROCstock. BTW: I think the generic ROC t-shirts will be $10 at
ROCstock but there is a limited quantity.

Hmmm I really liked Lee’s post…
And maybe if there are more times that the range shuts down because there no
one is volunteering for LCO/RSO…
Or the range doesn’t get setup until late in the morning, if at all… Until
there are enough volunteers…
And I know exactly that “in action” will drive some of the core members I know
fairly well nuts… But, time to “sit back, relax… Enjoy the company…” If you
have “volunteered enough” for this launch…

Unfortunately, that is the problem.
Too many who just want to relax, and expect everything to get done.
We are not a business that provides a service for a fee.
We are a volunteer operated club that has been getting too few volunteers.

Guys
I think we all need to relax!
Those that do not know me, for the last two years I have not been active due
to working out of town as well as some health issues. Before that I was an
active member for about 7 or 8 years, lost track because I was having so much
fun. I came in when there was still some of the founding members and those
guys were crazy volunteers when it came to making it happen! We definitely
miss them but with most hobbies they moved on to something else or maybe just
more time with their family.
I will be back on the lakebed soon. I will be by a campfire laughing after a
great BBQ. By the way anyone is welcome!
I know that there are more of you on chat with health issues other than me
that will appreciate this!
We must stop with the negative post! There will never be enough volunteers.
If the range gets set up it gets set up. If not, we do not fly. If there is
not a LCO or RSO, we do not fly.
If club members step up then we fly.
Really guys, we have been talking about this problem for years and it is not
going to change.
A club is people that share the same interest and enjoy each other's company!
Boys stop overthinking it because it will be Ok! Just show up and it will
happen. If not we will not fly and still have some laughs.
As long as we have a faa waiver, a BLM permit, and porta potties we are
golden!
Relax and enjoy the hobby and each other's company!
