[retrochallenge] Welcome to the Retrochallenge list!

This list was setup so that computer users of all stripes can
discuss the retrochallenge. It was setup for two reasons:

- Since most of the forums for discussing classic computers are
geared towards a particular platform, extensive discussions of
the retrochallenge may be unwelcome. That said, feel free to
bring up the retrochallenge on other lists. The more participants
we have, the more interesting the outcome will be! Just stay on
topic when you do bring the challenge up.

- An email list was selected over other means of communications to
make it convenient for people to discuss the challenge during
the challenge. Yeah, web forums are nice, but the web can be
trying on the best systems which qualify for the challenge.

It is anticipated that most of the early discussion will be on the
rules. Feel free to discuss them and to suggest improvements. I
will try to facilitate interesting rules and rules which will
increase participation. But in the end, your list administrator
will have the final word on the rules. This is to ensure that
everyone is playing by the same rules, to ensure that the rules
are relatively fair for all participants, and to keep the whole
process feasible (someone has to deal with day-to-day concerns,
develop the software to record the points, etc.). To avoid a
conflict of interest, I will only be participating in spirit. That
is to say: I'll be counting my points, but I cannot take the "prize".

* SUGGESTIONS FOR CHANGES TO THE RULES MUST END BEFORE JUNE 1ST 2005 *

We will start accepting entries on June 1st 2005, and the competition
will begin on July 1st 2005 then run until June 31st 2005.

What is the prize? It is the excitement of participating in the
challenge (everyone gets that one <g>) and the recognition of your
peers. To help the "recognition of your peers" bit, MLAgazine has
gratiously offered to publish an article about the winner so *please*
keep a journal of the interesting challenges, your thoughts during
the competition, how you got into retrocomputing, and so forth.

Finally, I would like to mention that this is the second annual
Retrochallenge. The original one was put on by the folks of the
68k MLA (Macintosh Liberation Army). If you love discussing old
Macs, this is definitely the place to be: http://www.68kmla.net

More later,
Byron.
