There apparently has been a new firmware released for this recorder with
lots of new features. If you can't find it, or want to know more, You can
write to Pat Ferguson from Ferguson Enterprises at
fergent@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

I went to Google, read the manuals--but the bottom line is that this
recorder does not appear to talk one through the time and date settings. A
sighted friend had it set for me within minutes, after I had spent two
painstaking hours trying to figure out where I was within the time/date
parameters and following the manual's instructions to the letter. You're
okay until you get to the system menu and hit the center button for the
clock--then the functions only beep--no verbal indicator of where you are.

Olympus Digital Voice Recorders DM4 and DM5 "Instruction Manual"
Thank you for purchasing the Olympus Digital Voice Recorder.
The DM4 and DM5 are referred to as the "recorder" hereinafter in this
manual.
Please note that only the main features and usage of this recorder are
explained and that not all contents of the supplied detailed instruction
manual are covered in this "Instruction Manual."
Before actual use of this recorder, please refer to the supplied detailed
instruction manual for more information.
The contents of this "Instruction Manual" are as of November
2010.3.3?@Setting the Time and Date When you use this recorder for the first
time after purchasing, or when you turn it on after having the battery pack
removed for more than fifteen minutes when exchanging batteries, "Please set
the Time and Date" may be announced. For setting the time and date, use the
Up, Down, Left, and Right buttons then the OK button for registering.
The voice control function can be used with this setting. While holding the
Voice button pressed, slowly speak the year, month, day, hour, then minute
into the built-in stereo microphones. After your voice is recognized, time
and date will be automatically set. To register the setting and start the
clock, press the OK button.
3.4?@Voice Guidance Setting
After the time and date are set, "Please select Off?C if you don't need
voice guidance"
will be announced, and "Voice guidance setting" mode will be entered.
Each time the Up or Down button is pressed, whether the currently selected
options are "On" or "Off" will be announced. To set the Voice guidance
setting to On, select "On" then press the OK button.
Explanations in this manual are based on the premise that the "Voice
guidance setting"
is set to "On."
This completes setup. Now the recorder is ready to operate.

understand the majority of the functions; however, I don't understand how to
set the time and date. I go into the system menu, arrow down to set time and
date, hit select, and then it tells me to hit the button in the center to
start the clock (did that), and then it says to adjust time and date by
tapping the plus and minus keys. It doesn't appear to speak the time and
date as it adjusts, and the right and left arrow keys on the square at the
bottom don't appear to be the plus and minus keys to which the system menu's
voice guidance refers.

Any suggestions?

Kim
