The kind of email message to which leo was referring was, let's say, you get a message from your bank, stating that your account information is out of date, and they need you to log in to verify some information and to ensure that your account is up to date. There will usually be a link in the email to click, and of course, clicking it will take you to a fraudulent site, a site that may resemble your bank's site. These emails can look and seem fairly legitimate, and of course, responding to them is quite dangerous.
