He had the problems before switching.  They started when he had AVG 8 on 
there I think.  Security Essentials takes less overhead, but it hasn't 
solved the general lock ups.  I just read a huge thing about HP laptops with 
defective video chipsets that overheat that the company won't replace.  But 
I  think his is a dell.

Jose, I had heard about the November updates possibly causing some problems,
but here is an article that says they exist but that the updates aren't
responsible for them.  What it describes though might be your problem.  It
also mentions a particular kind of malware that could be causing the
problem.  Link below.
