Before you all get too overly excited about Voice Over and accessibility, I'd
suggest doing more checking in to it. From the folks I have spoken with and
those presentatins I have seen at conferences, Mac is not totally accessible
with Voice Over. For example, Microsoft Office on the Mac cannot be completely
accessed with Voice Over. Forget PowerPoint and Excel.

The general opinion that I have heard is that it is a nice step forward, but
there's a long way to go. Macs are cool, but they are not productive machines
for blind individuals at this point. They are much better for individuals with
learning disabilities or possibly low vision.

Okay, bring on the shouts of outrage. <grin>

Andrea, I feel the very same way. The next computer I buy is going to be
a Mac. JAWS is fabulous--but no company should be able to monopolize the
market the way Freedom Scientific has done, and charge upwards of $800,
with a $200 annual upgrade fee, simply to provide the blind access to
the equivalent of a sighted person's computer screen/monitor. Can you
even begin to imagine the uproar from the sighted public if they even
thought they would have to pay $800 for a basic computer monitor with no
less expensive option available?

Yeah, it is to bad. I think that if you ever got an accessible ipod, or
any device in your hands would convince you how cool it is. Your girls
wouldn't be able to get a hold of it, because they wouldn't be able to
get it away from you! LOL I'm telling you, the next computer I buy is
going to be a Mac!
