I just downloaded Look Tell and I'm really happy with the recognizer feature of the app. It's fairly easy to do and it's lots of fun, actually. The bar code part, I agree, is a bit more difficult. I haven't worked with it much, but that is because I didn't get any response from it at all. I'll need to spend more time with it. I really like that help is very accessible with Look Tell and they provide a lot of good tips for having success with this app. Some apps I feel very lost and have to dig for help. Anyway, I'm happy with it. Reply-To: The Accessible Phones Discussion List <blindphones@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx> Ok, reinstalled the app and was very specula of the app results since I had so much bad luck with the barcode scanner part! That is supposed to be the blind friendly part of the app! Now I first concentrated on the recognizer part of the app! So got in some real good light and then got some stuff that I had no doubt of what it was! Then I proceeded to build me a small data base of some things. Well when finish I went thru to ID them and it I d each one without a miss. So the part that is not supposed to be accessible is the part that is accessible. It works fairly well . I would say as almost as good as VizWiz and Omoby! So this is my opinion only and my only and that others might find different results but the recognizer part of the app is very useful to the blind and it is very easy to build a data base by yourself. Now this is if you know in fact of what you have. If don’t have sited help then you can use VizWiz or Omoby to ID the stuff then use the looktel recognizer app the recognizer part of it and build you a data base. Now this would take time but it is done right by yourself. Now the nice thing is if The app was able to use the pictures from Omoby or VizWiz then this would really make it easy. Don’t know if they could get with them and they share data or not! So as far as I concerned maybe before I get my refund from Apple I will keep experimenting with the recognizer part might be worth the money if I can do it all myself. This is looking like it will be able to do. So if this is so then I might end up keeping it of course I might have to re buy it again. But that is ok! I really encourage you all to give the recognizer part of the app a chance and see if you are able to build your own data base without help if so then I would say you got your 10 bucks worth. I would have did this part first but they said it couldn’t be done without sited help. Are they so wrong and I think they are really hurting their self with that. Is si ted help easier yes! But there is something about being able to do it without asking for help. Now for the barcode scanner part gave it a try again and this part of it is just way too un reliable to depend on it. I will say for something they call that the blind can use by their self this part in my opinion is just way off and I would not even use this part! So with this I will give more of my experience with the recognizer part of the app and in hope this might help people on their decision. I also recommend all listen to ricks podcast on the barcode part as this will help in your decision on this part. I would do a podcast on the recognizer part but I just not good at podcasting I don’t think. But I do encourage someone to do a podcast on this part doing it by their self ( no sited help) ! this would give people a good feeling on whether it is for them or not. JMO and HTH !
