Photo technology has come a long way. Those are superior to what I could do using Fuji Neopan 1600, rated at 1200 back in the day BD (before digital)

It sure has! Especially the part where I can play and play and play without ever spending a cent for film or developing...and I can fiddle with the photos myself. Speaking of, the first shots were just to kinda demonstrate the fact that I could get acceptable shots without hugely long exposures, even with illumination only from porch lights.

I attached another that has more of a "Christmas card" feeling cuz I darkened it quite a bit to accentuate the detail on the porch while getting black blacks and still maintaining the snowflakes' visibility. Hell, I'm havin more fun than any ol man otta be able to.

Good one! I'm going to try my 75mm f1.8 at my grandmoppet's play tonight. She is directing it, designed the sets, is in charge of the lighting, and has a part in it, because "the costume fit". (?) I'll probably jack the sensitivity up to the max, and see what happens. Haven't done that much...never needed to. Probably use spot metering, too, just to see...

I just got a phone call telling me that I'll have a grand-moppet later today. This is gonna be a whole new thing for me. I may have to go to a training class or something. :) I spose I'll post photos of granddaughter when I can.

Winter at 1600 and 3200 ISO.

7D camera, 18-200 RF-S lens at 18mm taken from my front porch (such
as it is...it's more like 4 concrete steps.)

1600 photo: 1/4 sec f4, monopod.

3200 photo 1/20 sec f3.5, hand held.

Image stabilization on for both of 'em.

Illumination: available light plus porch light fluorescent 40w.

Some fiddling in Paintshop to correct white balance, color cast and
contrast. No sharpening.

Original images from 18.2mp sensor 5184x3456, 7mb each. I didn't get
the RAW image. Maybe later.

Absolutely astounding that ISO values that high can produce passable
results. Neither one of 'em is gonna win a prize for Image Quality,
but compared to the last time I messed with fast film (1970, using
Ilford 800 pan) they're almost like what you'd see from Kodachrome at 25.

Boggles the mind.
