Version 3.4 will stick around, but will get no bug fixes or new
features. We still use 2.6, 2.7 and early versions of 3.x in
production at work.
Unless you need the new features in 3.6, stick with 3.4 or even 2.7.

Hi there,
thank you for responding to this request from an almost desperate soul:-)
Well, according to python.org, python 3.6 is indeed the latest stable
(GA) version... Python 3.4 seems to be on the verge of falling from
grace:-) The site no longer provides executables & only provide the
source code. Furthermore, the site states that this 3.4 version has
reached a "only security-related fixes" status...
To me, it seemed to signal its empending deprecation... It's already 2
major versions behind... So that is why I was sort of afraid to install
it... Exactly what you said: I absolutely did not want to spend my time
looking for workarounds or working with a version that's on its way out...
Let me know if I'm missing anything...

Jean-Claude,
I do not have any experience with python 3.6 so cannot recommend any
workarounds.
You should contact the python developers for an answer too your problem.
They will likely direct you to a forum or mailing list where you can get a
quick answer.
My understanding is that python 3.4 is the last stable version of python
available.
Unless there is some capability in 3.6 that you need, I would be using
python version 3.4.
In general, stable versions are to be preferred to work with because they
tend to run into fewer problems.
So even if there is a workaround in python 3.6 for your problem, you may
be better off in the long run using python 3.4 unless you enjoy hunting
for workarounds.
Just my 2 cents, your mileage may vary.

Subject: [pythonvis] newbi with a question
Hi all,
I'm new to Python but not quite new to programming... I have worked on
mainframes way back when & I have used a variety of script languages, C,
ColdFire & others...
My question today concerns Python & MySQL. I have installed MySQL 5.7
server on my Windows 7 computer, created my database & tables, then
populated it all with the necessary data.
I wanted to use Python to build an interface to that MySQL database. I
had installed Python 3.6 but when MySQL installed, it complained that it
required Python 3.4 so refused to install the proper plug-in...
Will I have to install an earlier version of Python to satisfy the MySQL
wizzard requirement or do I have a workable way to use a MySQL database
with Python 3.6...
Thank you in advance for sharing your musings:-)
Cheers,
Jean-Claude Provost
