 Hi Dominic,
thanks for the feedback - the proa idea is nice - every time you change the bow you are sailing on, it also switches bow and stern :-). I think it will be difficult to handle the gaff of the latin sail sitting on a bike. At the moment I think about either a cat sail or an airfoil arrangement.

I think you are right about placing the mast on the front part of the python trike - I guess with a mast it has to be a trike - the power of the sail would interfere with steering. At the moment I think of placing the sail behind the driver or to one side. In any case somewere between the rear weels.

I already build the rear part, the track is about 1,3m (4,2ft) and started the front part. The wheelbase will be about 1,5m (5ft) and the driver is going to sit well before the rear axle to have sufficient load on the front wheel.
The front part is a typical python arrangement with the typical drivetrain.

Maybe I can do the first test ride this weekend :-). Most probably still without the sail :-(.

Best regards
Gerald

I think a 2 wheel configuration might be possible if you use a kite.
although that would need two hands to control it, and you seem to need your hands on the ground occasionally with a python.

most land yachts I have seen have the mast at the front, which would be arkward with centersteering.

you probably would not want it too far back, but it could happly work if it is asymmetrical.

I have built asymetrical boats, and they work fine.

do a google for "proa"

+ it frees up a lot more design possibilities.

Did anybody try already try to sail a python?

Guess it would have to be a three weel configuration?

    Thanks for any feedback!

    Best regards
