I tried to send this to Joel Alpers, but I see it went to the whole pure-silver list. Yikes. Can it be removed? PLEASE? Guess I'm not as computer-savvy as I like to think.Unlike the Usenet, where the original poster can remove his or her own posting, a mailing list is just that. Once mailed, it goes on and on.
As far as pricing prints is concerned, I have not seen your original print, so I cannot tell if your price is high enough or too high or what.
My view, though, is that once you have named a price, you cannot well lower it. I have bought a few prints in that price range. One by Ansel Adams for $225 for an 11x14 (in 1974) and one by Judy Dater in about 1975 to 1980 for $100 for an 8x10. Prices for these very same photographs are a lot more now. But the price you suggest seems very slightly high to me.
But if the customer objects, you might suggest a larger size for very little more than the 8x10 you quoted him on.
I used to charge $10 for an 8x10 matted. Those prints were not well treated, so I raised my price to about $40 for 8x10. I still did not feel they were appreciated, so I raised my price to $200 for an 11x14. Now I feel better, but I no longer have sold any prints.
Bear that in mind when you consider taking my advice. -- .~.
