DEAR JANET,
First, show us your image(s).
Secondly, will the print(s) be fiber based archivally processed
or RC?
Thirdly, do you offer your prints as limited editions or
unlimited?
The fact that GB wants your print means that he/she is willing
to pay for it. How much he/she pays for it depends on many thing including
the three above, your reputation, etc., etc.
My gallery dealer in NYC said that selling is 90% education and
10% sales hype. He means that you can't really sell someone art that they
don't want but, once they express desire to own a print, you can explain why
a given print is worth a certain amount of money. It is the image that
makes them desire the print. It is the qualities (both aesthetic and
technical) of the print (the object of art itself) that determines the final
price of the print.
Sooooooooooooooo, with the info requested above, members on this
list might be able to give you more concrete recommendations.
CHEERS!
BOB
PS: $250 for an unlimited edition 11X14 archival print (that you sold to the
hotel) is reasonable and not over priced. No need to quake. I recall
quaking from hunger when I started photography as my full time work. It
eliminated my quaking when asking a good price for my prints. I made the
photos from creative need. I then changed hats and brain hemispheres and
sold them. I saw each assignment or print sale as food on my table, gas in
my car, payment on my medical insurance, rent/mortgage. Suddenly I wasn't
shy about asking good money for my prints.

Subject: [pure-silver] pricing a print
Hi Joel,
I need help pricing a print. I got the following e-mail today:
>>>>>> Janet,
I came across your gallery when perusing the APUG web site.
I just really love the photograph of the girl being examined with her
companions (?family) looking on.
Any chance you'd sell a print I could display in my office?
I'm a family doc and photographer, and the photo really grabbed me.

Besides being really delighted (!) and flattered, I'm unsure about how to
price it. I've sold 2 large prints (11x14) matted to 16x20 to a hotel here
for $250 each. I quaked at that price, but kept a straight face & acted
like... you know, just something I do as an artist :o) (I used to think
I'd like to be a spy, but I have NO poker face. I, thankfully, did that
deal by phone and e-mail, so he couldn't see my face!)
Other than that, nobody writes asking to buy art prints here! Hey, but why
not start now - right?
This print will be 8x10. What do you suggest?
Thank you,
Janet Cull
