Most of my tanks and reels are at least 30 years old and show no signs
of rust. Some are expensive (Nikor, Omega, Kindermann), some are cheapy
house brands. I think it's how you treat the tanks. For example, are
chemicals allowed to stand in them for prolonged periods of time. Kodak
warns that some of their fixers containing ammonium chloride will
corrode some stainless steels on prolonged contact.

I was given some old stainless developing tanks (with brand new reels in
them) that were rusted right through in several places. Don't know what
brand or what they were used with, but I started thinking plastic isn't
so bad after seeing that.
