Why don't you just read off a gray card, assume that to be Zone V, and reduce
the
exposure by 1/2 stop increments. For your particular development, check
which exposure gave you 0.1 density and call that Zone I (I prefer to look
for 0.17 and call that Zone I.5). That allows you to determine your EI and
includes the meter?

So, if I understand you correctly, I take one reading and place on Zone V, make exposures at 1/2 stop increments from that reading, then check for 0.1 or 0.17 density. From that, do I work back to my Zone V to judge what EI to use? How would I judge this?

Or am I taking one reading for each EI and then making a Zone I exposure each time? (that's the way I've done before - I *always* open/close the wrong way!)
