Richard, mine also has the strap across the top that holds the camera in
when the top of the case is unbuckled. That strap snaps together about 3/4
of the way toward the left as you hold the camera in shooting position.
Based on the condition of the leather around the tripod hole, it does not
appear that supporting metal had been there. There are marks that indicate
someone used a tripod with the case on the camera.
