Ken Hough wrote me, I wrote back asking about the Deardorff backs.
He is the expert. Since he wrote me he must be seeing this list and I
invite him to respond directly.

Kind of dull gray sounds like B&J although Ansco used a similar color for its post-war cameras. The military had a spec for an 8x10 general purpose camera written for the 2D, Ansco built a version of their Universal View to meet the spec, i.e. with a 6x6 lens board instead of the larger standard one. B&J I think also tried to meet this spec, certainly B&J lens boards are indentical to the 2D so its possible the backs are too. I have only the Agfa and a Calumet C-1 (a green one). Never had a 2D or Deardorff.

Richard,
When I bought the Eastman 8x10 2-D it came as a package with
2 8x10 backs, one the correct Eastman back and the other back,
which fits also, a grey painted back with stainless springs, possibly
a B&J, not sure. I think the original owner got the second back because
the springs on the original Eastman are somewhat weak.

I never had a Deardorff but I think the dimensions of the backs
are different. Neither back fits my Agfa/Ansco either.

Hi,
Will the Deardorff 8x10 to 5x7 reducing back fit the
8x10 Eastman 2-D? It looks like the four pins on the
back are the same. Any wisdom here appreciated?
Were parts more interchangable in the past?
