I almost forgot the carbonate before adding the potassium bromide, but in the end it didn't happen. I use a small electronic scale and tare isn't an issue either.From the two symptoms you describe; developer turning dark brown andbeing weak in its action, I would suspect you may have forgotten to add the sodium sulfite when mixing it.
It's useful to keep a notebook and enter information on each ingredient as they are weighed out and added. For example,
tare x grams chem y grams ------ totl z grams
That way you can double check your work and also identify an error
later.
