Dear friends
As a next step to ensure that the reconstruction of the Mairie building is
done with traditional materials as we all want, and as proposed by INTACH
to the Government, and not in RCC as proposed by the PWD, which is
something the government, and the LG seem to be pushing for, here is a
draft letter we would like to send to the LG.
I am sending you this draft to get your comments and inputs as the idea
would be to get as many signature as possible on this letter before handing
this over to him by the 29th or 30th of September when he is supposed to be
back in Pondy. The funding agency, the World Bank, who are ready to fund
the reconstruction, will be coming to Pondy in early October and as for all
their grants and loan projects, they would want to see that the GOP does a
public consultation on this. This letter is also to ensure that the opinion
of the public is sought and expressed. We all know how public consultations
can be manipulated as they have been in the past.
Would appreciate you quick response. I will then send you copies of the
letter so that several of you could get signatures from other like minded
people.
I also think if representations could go from others outside the government
including industries, hoteliers, businesses, it would be great. So please
