You ask a number of things here so I will try to deal with them in turn.
1. The PTR1 is certainly not available any more in Europe other than by
second hand purchase. I don't know the situation in the US and Canada.
2. The PTR2 is quite different from the Pocket. The main differences are
that the PTR2 is much more like the PTR1 and has a CD drive and a compact
flash slot. The Pocket only has an SD card slot on board. The PTR2 also
comes with the Plextalk Recording Software (PRS) whereas the Pocket does not
as has been discussed on this list recently. Size is another really big
difference - the PTR2 is a little bigger than the PTR1 and the Pocket is
much more the size of a mobile phone or television remote control.
In terms of features, the PTR2 has much more editing features than the
Pocket. Both devices can be used to record good quality audio in DAISY
format.

3. For the CDs that you are having trouble with, two things come to mind.
Firstly, have you tried a different brand of CD? The PTR1 has been known to
be a bit fussy about different brands of disc and this might be the only
thing you need to change. Secondly, if you have information on a CD that is
important, before assuming that it is all lost, have you tried using the
"Search for edited information" feature? There is just a chance that this
feature might be able to roll your recording back to the previously saved
position and you might not have lost everything. If you need to more about

Subject: What is available now?
I have the ptr1 but more and more discs are giving me an error message
during recording. This means the CDS become unusable and I lose everything
on them. I don't want to buy another ptr1, and I doubt they are available
anyway. What else is available now? What is the difference between the ptr2
and pocket, or are they the same?
