OH well looks like it is completely broke.
Now I seem to have no choice but to delve into interacting with the RNIB
Customer Services repair facility.
At leest RNIB are letting be loan a unit for our infotech sight recordings!
Wish me luck.

Hi,
Unfortunately the PTR1 does not need to see any files on the card - if it sees no files on the card then it assumes a blank disk and prompts to create title. Have you tried a format of the card from the PTR1 (will take a long time), do this from the menu after card inserted.
Andrew.

HI. Well tried all those things and still get the same. However I'm now a little more hopeful about the card. Essentially if I leave it for long enough I get the message "unsupported card." Now when I look at the card on the PC there is nothing at all on it. So, it's a Toshiba 5GB card which up til now has always worked. What files does the PTR1 need to see in order to recognise the card.
Any help more than urgently required and appreciated. ----- Original Message ----- From: "Andrew Hodgson" <andrew@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx> To: <ptr1-users@xxxxxxxxxxxxx> Sent: Thursday, July 14, 2005 10:08 AM Subject: RE: Problem with PTR1
Hi,
Another thing - have you tried removing the battery for a few minutes then replacing it making sure the unit does not receive power whilst the battery is removed?
Thanks. Andrew.

Andrew the upgrade via USB is done and the additional and altered items are present thus indicating that the upgrade has worked. The only thing resembling a factory reset I can see is in the Control Panel and it's called delete all settings or something like that. Is that what you are refering to? thanks a lot.
Hi,
Try doing the upgrade via the USB and then also do a factory reset on the unit and remove all bookmarks.
Thanks. Andrew.

All. I hope someone may be able to help with this. I crucially need my PTR1 for nex tweek and currently am in urgent need of some ideas.
A couple of weeks ago my unit stopped wanting to play CD's, no matter whether MP3 or standard CD Audio. Every CD placed into the drive gave the message "bad or improppor CD". In an attempt to resolve the problem I upgraded to the latest version of the operating system using the USB method and the upgrade worked fine. Now I have the same error as before with Cd's however to make things worse when I insert my Toshiba 5GB PCMCIA card the machine just plays the progress sound and goes no further.
So I guess my question is... Is the PTR1 bust from a hardware perspective or can anyone think of anything to try to get it back up and running at leest with the card.
Answers gratefully received.
Very best regards.
Terry Clasper.
