Judy,

The humming can be heard with the unit turned off and connected to the
mains, try it.

I am now hearing hum through the speaker of the ptr2 and my friend has
just the player and is getting hum through speaker and headphones. It's
not very loud, but is definitely there...

Can hear it when reading books.

Judy

Sounds like a grounding problem on your side...

Subject: PTR2 Humming sound through headphones when connected to mains

Hi all,

When I connect my PTR2 to the mains I hear a humming noise through the
headphones(Bose noise reduction). If I plug in my external mic(Sony
ECMMS907) and touch the metal, the humming stops. The same happens if I
plug in a double ended line in lead and touch that.
I also use a Re-tel Intelligent recording interface to record telephone
conversations. When this device is used with the mains connected to the
PTR2, there is a loud buzzing on the phone which is even louder on the
other end. Once the mains is disconnected from the PTR2, no humming or
buzzing can be heard.
I have returned the unit to the RNIB, and they tested it but could not
hear any humming through the headphones(Standard headphones). I have
also tested Brian Hartgen's PTR2 and that does exactly the same as mine.
It is a shame to have to disconnect the mains when using the unit, has
anyone else experienced this?

Regards,

Dave Ankers
