Hi Dave,

As you discovered, a lot of PTR1s and PTR2s produce this humming noise,
when they're used with the AC adapter. But the same is true for a lot of
other portable recorders, quite a few Sony Minidisc recorders for
instance. I always make microphone recordings with the rechargeable
battery and since one can record for up to eight hours, when one uses
a CF card, this shouldn't be a problem for most people.
