Hello Per, Perhaps the TNC interface would not be of great value on HF, but it might encourage some people to use PSKmail who have a favorite mode like GTOR, etc. My main idea was that it could be used with packet on VHF to get 1200 bps or even more (maybe 9600 bps). The idea would be to leave the current modes in place but to allow the user to select a TNC mode as well. I also have a KAM+ somewhere (and an MFJ-1278 (junk) and a PK-232DSP (great)) and I have had many hours of fun using it. I know the link is pretty well handled by a KAM+ using pactor and gtor, we could remove the link handling from pskmail and interface the TNC. But, I don't think we would gain so very much by doing that. The top speed for pactor 1 is 200 bauds (+huffman) and we are already beyond that. Gtor is faster and the compression makes it pretty good, I know I have had real data throughput of 281 bps there. But, as I said, we wont gain any speed by using it. Its also a major change to introduce it (remove the link handling). So, I don't really know what we would gain. Perhaps its time to say goodbye to those old TNC's ? But, hardware is nice. Perhaps Kantronics could put a complete pskmail client on a TNC-like hardware? That way you could have an aprs beacon going while sailing (with pc off to save power). 73 de Per, sm0rwo mån 2008-01-14 klockan 18:50 -0800 skrev Howard Brown: > Well, since you asked... > > I would like to see PSKmail interfaced to hardware TNCs, in particular the KAM+. > > This would allow some faster traffic on VHF and might help revive packet. > > Howard K5HB > > ----- Original Message ---- > From: Per Crusefalk <per@xxxxxxxxxxxx> > To: pskmail@xxxxxxxxxxxxx > Sent: Monday, January 14, 2008 7:29:03 AM > Subject: [pskmail] Developers > > > Hi all, > > The list is too quiet for me now so I decided to try to change that ;-) > > I have started to get settled at my new QTH (it only took abt 6 months) > and that means I have started to have some time for ham radio once agn. > I > have started looking at what I would like to improve on the project and > have just added tls auth for using googles smtp server with pskmail.
