It won't be. Display hooks do not use your video card the same way as video intercept.

I hope it's not video card or driver dependent.

Hi all, you are right. NVDA is having something called display hooks
implemented, which collects information sent directly from the computer
screen, rather than through accessibility APIs which not all programmers
use. System Access has this already.

Last time I checked there were some noise made in the NVDA community about
better UIA support being in the pipeline for the next version, or somewhere
in the near future. There has also been some talk of implementing an off
screen model as well. I believe NVDA has some UIA support already?

Can you guys imagine what could happen if all of us and corporates and
governments would donate something like 10% of the funds we spend on
accessibility software towards a project like NVDA? Since NVDA is freely
available, the whole wide world would benefit from every dollar invested in
it as aposed to traditional paid for software where only the select few gain
from one more paying customer. Just a thought.

With that said I do support the paid for software model as well as open /
free software -- there is a place for both.

The other option for software vendors is to make their new software
accessible without the use of a screen reader, like self voicing apps for
example. It's probably not a viable option in most situations, but if they
choose to use a very new technology which is not accessible yet, this might
be the way to go for the first few versions until the screen reader guys
have caught up.

to know it's working well for you though. Are you a Jaws user?

Hi,.

It's supposed to. I haven't thought much of it to tel you the truth.
I've encountered uia in microsoft learning essentials and vs c++ 2010
express. Both times, I had lots of problems. Vs Express is
practically unusable right now. Crashes like there's no tomorrow
unless you turn uia off. I don't think UIA is mature enough and I
don't think Jaws supports it well enough. I'd steer clear if I were
you.

My two cents,

Thanks Jim: I have used WindowEyes for several years but am thinking of
looking at JAWS. My guess is that the new Visual Studio will need
scripting
since it is getting heavily into WPF, Silverlight and other stuff that
I
question how accessible the new stuff will be without some scripting
help.
I
don't know where WindowEyes is going with the new Accessibility
standards
and scripting but have read that at least some of the Visual Studio
features
work with JAWS 11, although I am not sure about the current JAWS Scripts
and
all that jazz. I am just looking into what might be required going
forward.
Windows 7? WPF? Ado.net Entity Modeling or MVC? and a bunch of other
things
like Silverlight, html5 and CSS3 that might pose problems for certain
Screen Reader accessibility hooking and scripting implementations, used
by
JAWS and WindowEyes current flavors.Just a thought before I consider
picking
a screen reader, operating system and development platform for the next
few
years of Windows Programming and Web Development.

Hi Rick,

With JAWS 11, yes, but I have heard that support is immature.

Hi: Does the JAWS Scripting Language support access to the UIA hooks for
applications like VS and WPF or Silverlight?
