Hi Hendri,

Glad it worked out. Thanks for letting me know. I'll add some more
details below because it sounds like you're interested (but feel free
to ignore it):

TeX Live has an updater also that works perfectly for me ('tlmgr').
The issue I think is more of a Linux vs. Windows thing. Since on Linux
many software is free, it's possible to have a central repository. The
nice thing is that one can install software very easily and be
confident that everything will work well together (such as library
dependencies and stuff like that). For example, the command I would
use to install TeX Live, LyX, and Chromium is 'sudo apt-get install
texlive-full lyx chromium-browser'). Also it saves time because you
don't have to go to individual website, and all updates of your
software are handled for you. If my computer dies and I want to do a
fresh install, I just run one long command like the one above that
installs all the software and everything is taken care of
automatically. So there are a lot of nice things, but in some cases
things get tricky when something else once to manage updates.
