Might be worth changing the error message from "Permission denied" to "Check
shm_user/shm_group permissions"?
Seems that a lot of the problems people have are found when they look in the
logs, and that the answers are often one-liners, so maybe there's a few log
messages that could change to save you some support.
Just a thought.
