This has something to do with "Classic" folder view versus "Common Tasks" view (See folder options). I don't get the "Filmstrip" view until I drill down to C:\Documents and Settings\Hugh, and there you can turn it off and on with the View menu. If you're really getting this in C:\, something's wrong. (That's a technical analysis).
