-=PCTechTalk=- Removing Microsoft Internet Explorer?

I would like to remove my Microsoft Internet Explorer completely without a
reformat, if possible. The MSIE I have is 5.5, and fails (locks up, exits
when I don't want it to, etc.) repeatedly. Also, if I use IE, the computer
will not permit me to shut down. If I use Netscape, none of this happens,
which makes me think there is a DLL problem involved with IE.

I have scanned for viruses, worms, etc. and come up clean. (Norton
AV 2003, Ver 9.05, updated: Sept 8, 2003)

I have followed Microsoft's Knowledge Base to resolve this error to no avail.
I have reinstalled IE also to no avail.
I have downloaded a fresh copy of IE and installed that, but I do not
believe it actually replaced files already installed.

What I would like to try is removing all downloads of MSIE, and remove
MSIE. Then I can use Netscape to download MSIE and start completely fresh.
Does that sound theoretically sound? I have seen commercial products you
can buy that will do this for you, but I'd rather not go this route.

If anyone knows how to remove a faulty/mis-behaving IE, please tell me.

Thank you.

Robert
