WinPatrol is a good program, it will improve your security. If nothing changed on your computer and you did not change or replace your modem or router, then the only 2 things I can think of is that either you connected to the wrong wireless router or you got a virus. Is this PC wireless? If yes, then check what wireless router it is connected to. I can't help you find out how to do that without knowing what version of Windows you have there. If that is not it, then run an anti-virus scan, scan with Malwarebytes, and at least one or two free online scans using different brand than your installed anti-virus. Actually it might be a good idea to do the scans even if you don't think you have a virus. If you don't already have WinPatrol, I highly recommend it. There is (or was) a free version and a paid version. I bought it because I need all the information I can get and don't always understand what the free version is telling me. Win Patrol lets you know if something has been added and asks if you want it. I click on "plus information" and it tells me about the add on and tell me if it is safe or not. I just had it pop up a couple of days ago about something AVG had added. Sandi P.S. you might copy the message you are getting and put it in Google. Just might tell you what you need to know. ----- Original Message ----- From: "cristy" <poppy0206@xxxxxxx> To: <pctechtalk@xxxxxxxxxxxxx> Sent: Wednesday, October 27, 2010 9:36 AM Subject: -=PCTechTalk=- windows xp network settings > Hi, > > I am getting a message asking me what security settings I want for a new > network, shows an ip address.
