If the computer is jolted or jostled while running, it can cause bad
sectors on your hard drive. Do a scandisk with a surface scan.

On 8/9/2003 at 6:52 PM a whisper was heard, and the one known as cris was
rumoured to have uttered....

          |  Content-Type: text/plain;
          | charset="Windows-1252"
          | Content-Transfer-Encoding: quoted-printable
          | The other day, my mouse fell onto the top of my computer. I
          | almost caught it, so it didn't hit hard, but it still hit.
          | JUST prior to that, my firewall and anti-virus icons
          | disappeared from the lower right hand corner. When the mouse
          | fell, The computer started making a really loud noise - maybe
          | a vibration ? I shut the computer down right away. Opened the
          | case and tightened the wires and 'stuff' rebooted, and the
          | sound was gone. When I re-booted, it said my registry files
          | had been able to be recovered. I didn't know what happened to
          | them - I had shut the computer down normally. I ran Panda on
          | line scan - and my norton - and ran my spyware progs.
          | Everything checked out fine.
          | Now, certain programs are acting strange. I had the older
          | version of the free mail washer on here, and it would not
          | accept my one e-mail address and was throwing hissy fits. I
          | got that working - I removed it and then added it again.
          | Today, I tried to open Paint Shop Pro, and it won't open, I
          | get one of those microsoft error reports - "paint shop pro
          | 7has encounered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for
          | the inconvenience" - then do I want to send the error report
          | to microsoft.
          |
          | does anyone have any ideas what might be going on? or how I
          | can figure it out?
          |
          | Thanks for any input!!
