When you try to validate your copy through the Windows Update, and it tells you that you can't validate cause you don't have a valid copy, there should be a link to click that'll go to the correct page on the MS site. I think some of their criteria for getting a free copy is basically 'ratting' on the person that installed Windows XP or gave you that illegal copy in the first place. Good incentive if that person is the retailer who refuses to now give you a legitimate CD that you should have gotten in the first place. :o) ---Troth -----Original Message----- From: pctechtalk-bounce@xxxxxxxxxxxxx [mailto:pctechtalk-bounce@xxxxxxxxxxxxx] On Behalf Of Don Sent: Wednesday, August 24, 2005 8:54 AM To: pctechtalk@xxxxxxxxxxxxx Subject: -=PCTechTalk=- Re: Using an XP upgrade to do a claen insatll that is legal I read somewhere that part of Microsoft's new validation procedure is a means to make yourself legal. You can buy it or get it free from them based on several variables. Unfortunately, I can't find the info on a quick Google search. Am I imagining things?
