I don't know what version of Windows you're using.  I have win98.  If I go to 
Start-Run and type in "msconfig" (no quotes) and go to the Startup tab, it will 
show everything that loads when you start your computer.

  No, but there seems to be a plethora of things displayed if I press CTRL - 
  ALT - DEL. END TASKing all of them causes a lock up. Where would I go to 
  turn off the auto loading of all this?
