but it does do everything else--full updating ?  just no monitoring so you 
CAN use it as  manual monitor?

Even tho you tried thos programs, try downloading the trial of Ewido and 
running it. after the trial, you can still use the update and scan part of 
the program, it just doesn't monitor your computer. I had good luck with it.

Hi all
I seem to be having a problem with spyware etc overtaking internet explorer
and my home page.
I have used ad-aware, spybot, Norton anti virus.
Can someone  tell me where in the registry that I may be able to find the
homepage for Ie as that may be the problem.
I have windows xp home
