Dont quote me on it, but its the same cable. I noticed it kicked the ATA side of things in when I had an older ATA 66, when I put a newer harddrive in, I noticed it said ATA 100 in the boot up, so I am assuming the 80 wire cable is to get the ATA side of things jiving, its up to the hardrive people on how the numbers work and how well they can utilize it, also the chipset has to support it to I think, so its a few factors..
