Unfortunately, I've read that a great number of people have fallen for the
scam already and I just wanted to make sure that the group was aware of the
existence of the scam to prevent any "inadvertent mistakes."

since when has microsoft EVER passed around an email??? to uptdate ANYTHING?

I thought that was what their  update site was for. I have yet to download 
anything for microsoft unless from their update site.... you get the notice 
shield with the presentation of whats next to patch and I always go 
persoanlly to the update website ...never enywhere else.
