Actually, the phone uses an RJ-11 jack, which is the smaller looking plug. From 
the wall, it goes into the modem. From the modem, using an RJ-45 jack (fatter), 
you then connect the modem to the computer or router.

  I heard somewhere that with ADSL (which uses a phone jack type connector)
  you can just plug in another computer wherever you have a phone jack. I'm
  not sure of this but it would be worth checking out with your DSL company.
