well i've run every kind of scan i'm aware of and i still can't get my pc to
shut down :-(
i have a doctor's appointment today and then have to go to CVS so I'll
attempt the
shut down or restart before i leave and see if it gets accomplished while
i'm gone. this
is so frustrating.

The only suggestion i found while googling was doing a registry cleanup.
I'm thinking about uninstalling Nortons and see what happens then. I know
in the past I've heard of Norton not playing well with others sometimes.

Thanks,
Sandy

Unfortunately shutdown problems are too common and there are way too many
causes. I have a problem on this machine where if both me and my wife are
logged in, I have to "Logoff" my user and then either "Restart" or
"Shutdown" from her login otherwise the Windows will hang with a black
screen. I can't ever use the "Logoff" option under her login without
getting the black screen. I'll try to do a google search soon to see what I
can find for you.

Subject: -=PCTechTalk=- Can't get pc to shutdown

For quite a while my pc took up to maybe 15 minutes to shutdown, whether a
complete shutdown or a restart, but for a few weeks now it has stopped
shutting down completely. The only time it will do a restart is when doing
windows updates and it says it needs to do a restart to finish...........for
some reason it does a restart just fine then.
I run windows xp pro on a HP. I've run my virus scan (Nortons - free from
comcast) and even run the Norton Power Eraser tool now included in the free
Nortons. I've run Malwarebytes Anti-malware and Spybot Search and Destroy
and nothing is found. I used the windows registry cleaner REGClean and one
I've used forever that I trust called EasyCleaner. A few things were found
with the registry cleaners but it didn't make a difference. Most of the
items found with EasyCleaner are Norton files that it won't allow me to
delete.

I'm going to spend tonight running Malwarebytes and Spybot again to make
sure but after that I have no idea what to do.

Suggestions are greatly appreciated.

Sandy
