On board modem... how bad can it be? Its not bad at all. Doesn't take much to make a modem good. On board modem should be fine... ESPECIALLY since you have cable and will only use the modem for emergency access or an occasional fax. If you were going to run an answering machine or something that required caller ID or other phone company features, then I'd say look to make sure its compliant with the latest and required protocals. But, for your purposes, its fine. Plus... just like onboard audi/video, you can always add your own anyway should you find a reason to do so. ---Troth ----- Original Message ----- From: Cajun To: pctechtalk@xxxxxxxxxxxxx Sent: Thursday, August 07, 2003 7:20 AM Subject: -=PCTechTalk=- Building Computer I'm looking at AMD chips in the 2000's, possibly 2800 in the XP variety. I have never gone for on-board components in the past (I've been very leery of it), but the audio is getting quite good and can be bypassed if necessary. So, I'm looking for a board with the new nVIDIA nForce2. I will buy a video card. I am not a big gamer and I'm not editing any video. I didn't realize you could get on-board modem. How good is that? I have a cable modem and rarely ever access my computer modem. Any case recommendations? I'm looking for a mid-size tower. Thanks! : ) Cajun To unsub or change your email settings: //www.freelists.org/webpage/pctechtalk To access our Archives: http://groups.yahoo.com/group/PCTechTalk/messages/ //www.freelists.org/archives/pctechtalk/ For more info: //www.freelists.org/cgi-bin/list?list_id=pctechtalk To unsub or change your email settings: //www.freelists.org/webpage/pctechtalk To access our Archives: http://groups.yahoo.com/group/PCTechTalk/messages/ //www.freelists.org/archives/pctechtalk/ For more info: //www.freelists.org/cgi-bin/list?list_id=pctechtalk
