Hi folks, Just wanted to tell a little how Isabel hit my mom's neighborhood. My mom lives in Portsmouth Va about 30 minutes from Virginnia Beach. I believe the eye did go right over us there. We were without hot water, and power until this morning. Our traffic lights were out all over the area until this morning. I did find a grocery store open on the third day that was using a generator, but of course no ice or meat, etc..we seeked out charcoal, more batteries, none of course. Our neighbor had a little grill that we got hot water from in the morning for a cup of instant coffee. I was able to track down some ice at a shopping center parking lot where the salvation army was handing out a few free bags. It was pretty hot in Portsmouth every day about 85 degrees and mom and I raked and raked, and bagged and bagged tree limbs, pine straw, etc.. We had a neighbor across the street that had to have an ambulance come in the middle of the hurricane, he has emphysema and was on oxygen. He had tried to get a generator going in his garage and got bad fumes. Then when he returned from the hospital a day later, his neighbor went over every few hours to fix up his generator and keep it going in his driveway. He also helped to clean his yard up and stuff. We kept hearing sirens every day and night, scarey. Another issue for us In portsmouth were very long gas lines. That was so weird to m e as I have never had to wait in line for gas like that before. I have a few digital pics that I did take of some down trees. One big one landed on a neighbors roof and another through a neighbors kitchen, no one was hurt thank God.
