Jackie,

If your friend does not have the administrator's password then they can
create a new one following the steps below, however a word of caution, DO
NOT LOSE this password, make sure that it is written down and I believe you
cannot recreate another password using this method without having the
password created by this means.

Here are the steps:
To create a password for the Administrator account

Restart your computer in safe mode:

Click Start and then click Turn Off Computer. In the drop-down menu, click
Restart.
After your computer restarts, look for "Please select the operating system
to start." When this text appears, press F8.
Use the arrow keys to highlight the Safe Mode option, and then press ENTER.
When the "Windows Welcome" screen appears, log on to an administrator
account.

Click Start and then click Control Panel, click User Accounts, and then
click Change an Account. Under "Pick an account to change," click the
administrator account you want to change and then click Create a password.

I hope this can help your friend. Please let us know how it turned out.

John F

Are you using XPPro or XPhome? Usually the password is the name/or password
of the one loading the OS. It could be blank. Call the company that built
your machine. Under Microsoft rules, whoever builds the machine is supposed
to support windows.
