A virus that first appeared in the US last year, which targets personal computer files and then demands a ransom from their owner, has now been reported in Britain. The virus is part of an increasingly popular form of malware that has been christened ransomware, on account of the demands from associated cyber criminals for users to transfer funds to restore access to their files. US computer security firm Lurhq published a report on this particular strain of ransomware, Archiveus, earlier in the month detailing how the virus concatenates the victim's files rather than encrypts them, deleting the original files and storing the copied files behind a 30 character password.
