Hi all,

see correspondence below - does anyone have any suggestions for Jim besides
what I wrote to him below about contacting the manufacturer?

best regards,
Leah

thanks, that is what I needed to know. now I can send this question to the
other members to see if anyone has a good suggestion.

in the meantime - have you contacted Bushnell to ask if they have a solution?
sometimes it turns out that something is a "known problem" (i.e. a part that
wasn't well made to begin with and the manufacturer got a lot of complaints)
and they might have a workaround or replacement part that they can send to
anyone who calls them about it. it is worth a try.

I found the manual of your telescope online
http://www.bushnell.com/manuals/telescopes/78-9519_Deep%20Space.pdf and it
seems that the tripod is designed specifically to connect with the equatorial
mount - so a different tripod, e.g. from a camera store, might not be suitable.

the manual says:

"Telescope LIFETIME LIMITED WARRANTY
Your telescope is warranted to be free of defects in materials and workmanship
for the lifetime
of the original owner. The Lifetime Limited Warranty is an expression of our
confidence in the
materials and mechanical workmanship of our products and is your assurance of a
lifetime of
dependable service."

so it is worth trying to call them (unless you have already done so without
success).

the Bushnell website gives their phone number as: 800-423-3537

  Dear Leah,

Thank you for your interest in assisting me. The telescope that I have is a
Bushnell, Deep Space Series, 675 x 60 Refractor Telescope, Model 78-9519. It
is not the most expensive telescope in the world ( by a long shot) but it
serves a purpose for an amateur like me.
The main problem is with the wooden tripod stand. The adjusting locking
mechanism often slips on one or more of the legs. I have looked to some degree
for a metal replacement stand on line and through camera catalogs but have not
found the right one yet. I welcome any suggestions you may have and appreciate
your time in assisting me.

  Best Regards, Jim

the problem is that there isn't really a telescope store in Phoenix. but,
tell me more about the type of stand and what problems it has, and maybe we can
figure out what to do - whether to try to fix it (and how to do so), or to get
a new one, etc.

first, what model is the telescope? besides the brand (Bushnell), is there
a model number written on it? (from this I would be able to find a picture of
it, to see what the base looks like.)

also, what are the specific problems with the base? e.g. not standing
steady, not holding the telescope securely, or whatever.

It's a Bushnell telescope. Maybe I just need to buy a new stand. Do you
recommend a good telescope store? This telescope was a gift. I do not know
where it was purchased.
      Regards,
      Jim

        Dear Jim,

that is a good question, I will forward it to other PAS members who
might have suggestions.

what model is it, and what needs to be fixed?

        best regards,

Where can I take my telescope stand for repair? The stand is broken,
but the telescope is ok.
          Thank you.
