The last week in September is the Annual Flagstaff Festival of Science. We have
had several PAS members attend over the years. It is about 10 days long with
about 9 free seminars, tours, exhibits, field trips, etc.. each day. Some of
the subjects are astronomy, while other branches of Science are also explored.
There will be a giant star party at Buffalo Park just north of Flagstaff,
Thursday night, Friday night, and Saturday night Sept 22-24, 2016. Last year on
Sat night there were about 36 telescopes and about 1300 customers. Howard,
Frank and I brought our scopes and it was a great event.
This year they are again asking for telescopes. If you are interested, please
let me know and I will send detailed information to you. Last year we were
allowed to tour the new Discovery Channel Telescope because of our
participation at Buffalo Park. This year, if you volunteer for any of the 3
nights with your telescope, you and your family are invited to do night time
observing Sunday night, Sept 25th, through the Naval Observatory's 61 inch
telescope which is closed to the public.
As we get closer to September, the full schedule of events will be published
for the 10 day Festival. However, if you are interested in the Buffalo Park
star party, we need to send in our information asap to get a spot at the star
party and to get a spot at viewing at the Naval Observatory.
Let me know if you are interested. Sam Insana President of PAS
PS I am sending a special mailing to Roger and Christine since they told me
they have not been getting all the pas list serve emails.
