I'd only known it to chart by The Five Keys, but a couple of Saturday nights ago, he played a version which I think was by a white group and was in the key of C. The first time I heard the song was on a Bobby Vee album, and for early Bobby Vee, he did a tremendous job on it, I thought. The arrangement sounded like a very close copy of the version Steve played a coupleof weeks ago.

Oh, Steve is the greatest. We used to listen regularly when Curt could hear well. He is such a nice guy. We felt so thrilled to be able to help him out a couple of times by finding music he didn't have. There was one time in particular when he had been looking for something and we were able to get it to him. Couldn't find a nicer guy. Hope we'll be listening again soon.

They were singing and playing both, and I do have a CD Called "The Shadows Vocals" but didn't know if Steve would have access to it. He commented that he thought it was a really great song, and that it was a hit in the U.K., but didn't get the play it should have gotten over here in order to make it. Apparently it bubbled under in 1964, but there's a lot missing from the Bubbling Under charts we have for 1964. He was very detailed last night about Pete Fountain's death, how old he was, that he'd had heart ailments and was in hospice for some time before his death. I think Steve is an incredibly nice guy, and although I make requests usually by phone, we're in e-mail contact as well. There's a kind of family of steady listeners to his show. I also really like Michael Godin (pronounced go-dan) from Canada who's on the Legend between 6:00 p.m. and 10:00 p.m. Pacific time Sunday nights, but I am often involved in doing other things so don't get to listen as I'd like to every week.

Thanks very much, Karen. That was definitely from the sixties, according to Wikkipedia. The article that Marty originally sent says that Just A Closer Walk with Thee was from 1959, but Wikki says it was from 1960. It's hard to know which source to believe, lol. Thanks again. Devon.
