Subject: [ourplace] Monday Morning Nuggets for February 22, 2016
Welcome to George Washington's actual birthday. That ought to be worth five
nuggets, don't you think? As usual, the Dropbox link comes first, and it'll
be followed by the track list.
https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/3177119/Nuggets0222.zip
01 Billy Joel - The Ballad Of Billy The Kid
Billy wrote this to satisfy an urge to create something similar in style to
music composed by Aaron Coapland during the early part of the 20th century.
He definitely succeeded. And the last verse contains a hint of an
autobiography.
02 JIMMY VELVET - The History of Love (1963)
This was the B side of Jimmy's 1963 hit "We Belong Together."
03 Roy Orbison, Twinkle Toes
This was the follow-up to Orbison's "Oh Pretty Woman." But while that one
was Roy's biggest hit ever, this charted very low if at all.
04 Johnny Rivers - Hey Joe
This rather soulful arrangement appeared on Rivers' 1967 "Realization" LP.
05 Phil Harris, The Thing
This topped the charts nationally as I was heading into Kindergarten during
the fall of 51.
I'll be back with another five nuggets on leap day. In the meantime, do your
best to have a good Monday, and enjoy the rest of your week.
